Historia

Okręg Romorantin-Lanthenay został utworzony w 1800 r., rozwiązany w 1926 r. i przywrócony w 1943 r. W 2007 r. wchłonął kanton Saint-Aignan z okręgu Blois . Podczas reorganizacji okręgów Loir-et-Cher w styczniu 2017 r. Zyskał 17 gmin z okręgu Blois i stracił trzy gminy na rzecz okręgu Blois. W styczniu 2019 roku zyskała gminę Courmemin z okręgu Romorantin-Lanthenay.
