Epeolus tarsalis

Epeolus to rodzaj pszczół z kukułką z plemienia Epeolini, podrodziny Nomadinae, części rodziny pszczół miodnych Apidae . Często są one znane jako różnobarwne pszczoły z kukułką .

Biologia

Gatunki w obrębie Epeolus to średniej wielkości pszczoły o jasnych wzorach. Obecnie opisano około 100 gatunków z całego świata. Wszystkie znane gatunki Epeolus są kleptopasożytami pszczół górniczych z rodzaju Colletes . Samica wchodzi do gniazda wykopanego przez samicę Colletes i składa jajo w niezamkniętej komórce. Larwa Epeolus zjada następnie jajo pszczoły żywiciela, a następnie żywi się pyłkiem, który pszczoła Colletes zaopatrzyła komórkę dla swojego potomstwa. Pszczoły Epeolus mogą być dość oczywiste i łatwe do zaobserwowania w pobliżu skupisk lęgowych swoich żywicieli i często żywią się tymi samymi kwiatami. Pszczoły Colletes wyścielają swoje komórki lęgowe celofanową osłoną, którą wydzielają z gruczołu Dufoura, aby chronić komórkę przed wilgocią i infekcją grzybiczą, samice pszczół Epeolus mają kolce na końcu odwłoków, których używają do przekłuwania otworów w kształcie litery U w tym pokrywając, aby mogła składać jaja między jej warstwami, wydziela również niewielką ilość kleju, dzięki czemu jajo przylega do komórki.
