Philautus to rodzaj żab krzewiastych z rodziny Rhacophoridae z Azji. Niektóre gatunki z tego rodzaju są obecnie uważane przez IUCN za wymarłe , podczas gdy inne są szeroko rozpowszechnione i obfite (takie jak niedawno opisany P. abundus , który został specjalnie nazwany z tego powodu). Taksonomia grupy jest niejasna, z wieloma słabo opisanymi gatunkami .

Ten rodzaj jest wyjątkowy pod tym względem, że rozwój nie jest bezpośredni, z całym wzrostem wewnątrz jaja i bez stadium swobodnie pływającej kijanki. Stwierdzono, że niektóre gatunki zakopują jaja w glebie, chociaż są nadrzewne, a inne przyczepiają jaja do liści.

Rewizja

Na początku 2009 roku naukowcy z Delhi University dokonali przeglądu tego rodzaju po odkryciu i ponownym odkryciu gatunków w lesie Ghatów Zachodnich .
