Marktrock to festiwal muzyczny odbywający się co roku około 15 sierpnia w sercu uniwersyteckiego miasta Leuven w Belgii. W Poperinge odbywa się również mniejszy festiwal Marktrock , który odbywa się w ostatnią sobotę sierpnia.

Nazwa Marktrock pochodzi od holenderskiego słowa markt oznaczającego rynek i odbywa się na 2 placach (od 4 do 24 edycji) w historycznym centrum Leuven: „ Oude Markt ” i „Ladeuzeplein”. Aż do 24. edycji (2006) trzydniowe święto zawsze kończyło się 15 sierpnia Wniebowzięciem .

W 2004 roku w Leuven odbyła się 22. edycja festiwalu Marktrock, który stał się jednym z największych miejskich festiwali muzycznych w Europie, odwiedzanym co roku przez ponad 350 000 osób.

5 lutego 2007 roku organizacja Marktrock VZW ogłosiła zakończenie festiwalu. Głównymi powodami tej decyzji były rosnące ceny wysokiej jakości artystów i zespołów, mała pojemność sceny głównej na Oude Markt, nowe i kosztowne regulacje prawne każdego roku, ryzyko finansowe festiwali plenerowych oraz odmowa organizacji ponownie podnieść ceny biletów wstępu na scenę Oude Markt. Deszcz podczas edycji 2006 z pewnością też nie pomógł. W ciągu 24-letniej historii oryginalnego Marktrock ponad 1400 artystów wystąpiło w Marktrock, ponad 5 milionów ludzi odwiedziło festiwal i zapoczątkowało kilku belgijskich artystów.

W marcu 2007 Marktrock przeszedł pod nowe kierownictwo, które ożywiło festiwal i przeprojektowało edycję z 2007 roku. Darmowe sceny zniknęły, zastąpione przez dwie płatne sceny: Oude Markt skupiała się na lokalnych i wschodzących zespołach, podczas gdy większy Ladeuzeplein prezentował uznanych i międzynarodowych artystów. Ta nowa konfiguracja spotkała się ze znaczną krytyką, a frekwencja była niska.

W edycji 2008 festiwal został ponownie odnowiony, przywracając różne bezpłatne sceny w całym mieście, pozostawiając jedynie Oude Markt z opłatą wstępu. Festiwal wciąż walczył o przyciągnięcie tłumów, które kiedyś przyciągał.

Festiwal z 2009 roku ponownie zmienił swoje podejście, rezygnując zarówno z wpisowego, jak i występów międzynarodowych. Zapewnił dodatkowe fundusze od miasta Leuven pod warunkiem, że festiwal skupi się na lokalnych talentach. Pomimo składu w większości mało znanych zespołów, ta edycja przyciągnęła szacunkowo 95 000 gości, powodując drobne problemy organizacyjne, ponieważ goście zostali zawróceni z miejsc, które były wypełnione po brzegi.
